Courtney Brooks: Musician
Brooks, an Alexandria native, followed in the footsteps of his father by playing drums. He played drums in the school band at Armstrong High School in Washington, D.C. and afterwards, he served in the U.S. Army. He toured worldwide, as a professional musician, leading Courtney Brooks All Stars – one of the top bands from the D.C. metropolitan area. He also helped start the Alexandria Rams, the first African American football team in the area when professional football was still segregated.
